The laboratory employs specialists of neurosurgical and trauma and orthopedic profile. The main task of the laboratory is to develop methods for the diagnosis and surgical treatment of patients with diseases, congenital and acquired deformities and the consequences of damage to the spine and spinal cord, syringomyelia. Implants and surgical technologies for their implementation are being developed.

The main directions of scientific work:

  • Development of new diagnostic and surgical interventions for spinal neoplasms;
  • Development and implementation of various aspects of the rehabilitation of patients with traumatic disease of the spinal cord;
  • Development of biologically active transplants based on the use of cellular technologies;
  • Implementation of a research project under the program of the Union State of Belarus and Russia “Development of new spinal systems using prototyping technologies in the surgical treatment of children with severe congenital deformities and spinal injuries”.

During the work in the laboratory of diseases and consequences of spinal cord injuries and the spinal cord, research and development topics were studied, studying current aspects and problems of vertebrology. The laboratory staff implements the results of research and practical work in the health care system of the Republic of Belarus. In the laboratory, joint research projects with other scientific institutions are successfully performed (RSPC Oncology, Powder Metallurgy Research Institute). Currently, among 5 laboratory researchers there are four degrees of Candidates of medical sciences, one is an Associate Professor, three have the highest medical category, two have the first. Three doctoral dissertations and one candidate's theses are performed in the laboratory. The laboratory staff published more than 600 printed works, of which more than 150 were published in scientific journals and in foreign publications; more than 20 patents for inventions were received, about 30 instructions for use were issued, approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. The staff of the laboratory conducts courses of lectures and practical classes in the framework of advanced training of doctors on the basis of the educational center of The Republic Scientific-Practical Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics.

The results of research and practical work carried out in the laboratory of diseases and consequences of spinal cord and spinal cord injuries led to the widespread introduction of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of the spine and spinal cord to the Public Health Service of the Republic of Belarus.
