The ICU and Anaesthesiology Department

The ICU and Anaesthesiology Department annually provides more than 6,000 surgical interventions of various levels of complexity, which made it possible to accumulate considerable experience in the field of perioperative management of patients.

The ICU and Anaesthesiology Department is a highly integrated group of adults and pediatric anesthetists whose goal is to provide the best treatment and care for patients who need anesthesia and intensive care. All employees of the department attend regular advanced training cycles in the country and abroad.

In our work, we use modern and safe methods of anesthesia: total intravenous and inhalation anesthesia, various types of regional anesthesia, as well as their combined use. The possibility of incorporating the needs of patients in the choice of methods of anesthesia is an important factor in getting good results of surgical treatment. The use of these technologies makes it possible to provide effective protection against highly traumatic surgical operations, prevent the formation and development of postoperative pain syndrome. Many orthopedic operations are associated with the risk of significant blood loss, so we actively apply blood-saving technologies (intraoperative instrumental and postoperative reinfusion of drainage blood, pharmacological prophylaxis), which significantly reduce blood loss during and after surgery and, as a result, in most cases eliminate the need for donor transfusion blood products and reduce patient immunization. This makes it possible to avoid complications and to speed up the recovery process after surgery.

General anesthesia today is a light falling asleep, a stable and even sleep during the operation, a calm awakening, no pain, and good health in the postoperative period. This is what happens in our clinic.

The department is equipped with high-class anesthetic and respiratory apparatus and mechanical ventilation devices, equipment for carrying out extracorporeal treatment methods, devices for intraoperative patient blood collection with the possibility of subsequent reinfusion, ultrasound imaging devices to safely ensure invasive manipulations, etc.

In the department there is a ward for the joint stay of pediatric patients and parents in the postoperative period.

The department conducts research in several areas:

  • development of protocols for the management of patients with severe spinal deformities (including children);
  • development and improvement of protocols for the management of patients with severe injuries of the spine and spinal cord (including children);
  • mprovement and introduction of new methods of intra - and postoperative pain relief for highly traumatic surgical interventions (endoprosthetics of the knee and hip joints, operations in neurovertebra) based on the modern concept of multimodal analgesia;
  • improvement of blood-saving technologies (intraoperative controlled blood reinfusion using cell-saver apparatus, reinfusion of filtered drainage blood, intraoperative controlled hypotension, pharmacological prophylaxis) during surgical interventions accompanied by significant blood loss
